In recent years, electric scooters have become a popular means of transportation due to their convenience and eco-friendliness. However, their portability also makes them a target for theft. Typically, thieves will either take some parts of your e-scooter or steal them all together, especially if they find a weak locking system.
To protect your investment, iOS users can use AirTags to track your electric scooter. In this blog post, we will guide you through the process of setting up an AirTag on your electric scooter. (*Please note that we currently only support the installation of AirTags on the Mukuta 8 and 9 series.)
What is an AirTag?
AirTag is a small, coin-shaped tracking device that helps you locate and track personal belongings like keys, wallets, bags, and other items. Important features like its small size, long battery life, and extreme accuracy make AirTag ideal for a variety of applications, even making it easy to track your electric scooter.
What You’ll Need
- An AirTag
- An iPhone or iPad running iOS 14.5 or later
- A secure and discreet place on your scooter to attach the AirTag
Step-by-Step Guide
# Set Up the AirTag
Before setting up the AirTag, remember to turn on the following on your device:
- Two-factor authentication
- Find My
- Bluetooth
- Location services
- Precision Finding
(*To activate Precision Finding, go to Settings, then Privacy, then Location Services until you hit Find My. Enable While Using the App (or Widgets), and turn on Precise Location to enable the Precision Finding feature.)
# Where to install your AirTag
AirTags have an IP67 water resistance rating, meaning they’re pretty waterproof, but we suggest installing them in covert locations, so they can’t easily be removed or spotted and are protected from the elements.
Generally, we recommend that a good place to mount the AirTag is inside the headlight housing of the Mukuta e-scooter.

# Test the AirTag
Once the AirTag is in place, it’s important to test it to ensure it’s working correctly.
- Open the Find My App: On your iPhone or iPad, open the Find My app.
- Locate Your AirTag: Select the AirTag from the list of devices. You should see its current location on the map.
- Play a Sound: Tap the “Play Sound” option to make sure you can hear the AirTag if needed. This can be useful if you need to find a scooter in a crowded area.
# Regularly Check the AirTag
Periodically check the AirTag’s location and battery status in the Find My app. AirTag batteries typically last about a year, so you’ll need to replace it when the app notifies you of a low battery.
Conclusion
Adding an AirTag to your electric scooter is a smart way to enhance its security. With a few simple steps, you can set up and conceal the AirTag, providing peace of mind knowing you can track your scooter if it’s lost or stolen.
